The plan calls for 4,545 square metres of rock and armour stone infill into our tidal harbour, replacing open pilings with a solid wall of stone, permanently altering tidal flow and reshaping the heart of our historic waterfront.<\/p><p>Promoted as a <a href=\"https:\/\/standrewswharf.com\/?p=1706\">\u201chybrid\u201d upgrade<\/a>, the $7.8-million project will extend Market Square, but at the cost of blocking natural tidal movement, damaging marine habitat, and replacing the open, heritage-style approach with an industrial-style shoreline. Similar infill at nearby locations has already caused erosion, flooding, and debris buildup on neighbouring properties. Scientists warn that critical mudflat ecosystems, home to clams, shorebirds, and fish, cannot simply be recreated elsewhere.<\/p><h2><strong>This project risks:<\/strong><\/h2><ul><li><strong>Environmental harm<\/strong>: Blocking tidal flow, altering sediment patterns, and destroying irreplaceable marine habitat.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/standrewswharf.com\/?page_id=18\"><strong>Loss of heritage character<\/strong><\/a>: Replacing open pilings with a rock wall changes the visual heart of our waterfront.<\/li><li><strong>Questionable urgency<\/strong>: The wharf needs repair, not a full redesign.
